Now in verses 9 to 12 we saw last week that God reinforces, and as if - in case we forget - in verse 9, in case we forget that there is a condition on these promises in this Psalm, which is verses 1 to 4: you've got to dwell in the secret place of the Most High, you've got to abide under the shadow of the Almighty. Now, the reason I point out the connection between joy and faith and their interwovenness in Paul’s mind and Jesus’s mind is that we are told explicitly in the Bible to fight for faith. We find them in Acts acting on behalf of the Apostles, making God's will known to men. When God’s children obey their Heavenly Father, He is glorified. Can I ask you, this is the truth now - this isn't experience speaking, this is the truth: what is there to worry about? Do you know what the newspaper said? Therefore, I am on a crusade to help people break free from that terrible sin of being out of sorts with God’s authority over their lives. He wants us to see past the temporal, past the disease, past the cancer, past the disability, past the problems in work, past distress in the home from children or parents, or husband or wife - He wants us to see past, and to see that God is able! With long life will I satisfy him, and show him my salvation". 2 Timothy 2:25: “Correcting his opponents with gentleness.” And then comes this staggering word, “God may perhaps grant them repentance leading to a knowledge of the truth that they may escape from the snare of the devil having been captured by him to do his will” — 0his joyless will, his worldly will.”. Hebrews 1 and verse 14 says: 'Are they', angels, 'not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation?'. “God is love. 28:13). It is constant: 'in all thy ways'. And he makes humans an essential element and means in the process called evangelism. It ought to make you realise that no matter what touches me, nothing can touch me out of the will of God if I put myself under the shadow of God! Lord we pray that, as we have now known the truth, that through knowledge of the truth that the truth may make us free. Do you find that God brings you His protection and His peace when you are faced with the trouble? How can we know that in the real realm that we are living in, with all the problems, that we will have real protection at our very back door? Christian Hedonism does not make a god out of happiness. Now, I am not under the false assumption that many of us, including myself when I read this Psalm, find a lot of the truths very difficult to implement into my life and put into practice. The world wants you to find your satisfaction, your restfulness, your peacefulness in insurance, padlocks, cruises, big fat retirement, big portfolio. The name of this conference is How to Fight for Joy or When I Don’t Desire God, and I said that the aim is not to increase your comforts, but to sustain the sacrifice of love.And I hope that’s plain. 5. Tripping over a kerb stone and cracking your toe - the Lord is saying: 'Even those small things, I will look after you in'. So let's look at this, let's look at how does God protect us. “Where will God enable me to overflow in joy in love to you better?” Will it be driving this way or this way? They want to get people to have a passion for God who right now love only the NBA or their new hair or whatever. You see, what God is wanting us to do through this Psalm is to look by the angels, to recognise that Christ has ordained these angels to guard us. And so were all of you born that way. Most people in the world have no experience of lasting joy in their lives. I will say of the Lord", of Jehovah, "He is my refuge and my fortress: my God", Elohim, "in him will I trust. That is that faith injected from the word of God into your heart, to realise that God is for you! Let's go and tell them! Verse 11: '[They are] given charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways' - in all thy ways. I use that phrase, because it seems the best alternative to the presumption that comes with thinking, “I can make this happen. “Not that we lorded over your faith, but we are workers with you for your joy.” And that word workers or laborers is another way of what I mean by fight — fighters, workers. Why are you a Christian? Proverbs 19:21: “Many are the plans in the mind of a man, but the purpose of the Lord will stand.” Be a planning people.
